Rubies and sapphires are both members of the corundum family of gemstones.  In fact, the only difference between the two is the color.  Ruby is a pink to a blood-red colored precious gemstone.  And, rubies are among the four precious gemstones with diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds.

The word ruby comes from ruber, which is Latin for red.

How Do I Care For My Ruby Gemstones?

To retain the shine of your ruby gemstones, clean it at home using a mixture of mild soap and warm water.  Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away the dirt.  Rinse with warm water and wipe suing a lint-free cloth.


Do Rubies Chip Easily?

Even though rubies are tough, there is a minimal chance that they may chip.  This is because it could have an inclusion that would affect the structure and even the appearance.  These are inherent flaws in natural gemstones that affect their overall durability.
